My name is Anna Newman. I am an Ambassador Scout and member of Girl Scout Troop 32317. As part of the Girl Scout oath, I have pledged "to serve my country" and "to help other people at all times." While working on my Silver Award in 2020-21, I discovered that many citizens of Dayton suffer from food insecurity. With my fellow troop members, we designed a community garden to serve Daytonians who live in in a food desert and don't have easy access to fresh fruit and vegetables. This past year, while writing an essay about Jonathan Dayton, I learned that 1 out of 9 veterans live in food insecure households. This statistic was alarming to me so I decided to help those men and women who have served our county and suffer from hunger. My Girl Scout Gold Award project is dedicated to helping feed our area veterans, but I cannot do this alone. I need your help and together, we can battle to end hunger for local veterans in this ongoing war on hunger.
You can make a difference in the life of hungry veteran by collecting food during our bi-annual food drives or by donating money. Please join our fight to end hunger for Dayton veterans.
